Most ad networks prefer little text on the pictures, which is why you should use a catchy copy that is concise, and that converts better. Try to convey your message with a minimum number of words.

Great advice. Another tip is to have your ad text copy match phrases on the landing page in order to increase your “Ad Relevance” which usually lowers your cost per click.
