Introduction

If you are reading this article, then I’m going to assume you already know what email marketing is. Indeed, you probably know that email marketing is one of the most important aspects of any affiliate marketing business. But you may not know the best way to go about it. Hopefully, you’ll find the following tips useful.

Ensure You Have Consent

Make sure you have consent to send emails to someone. All your emails should be collected in a permission-based manner. This is not only a best practice; it is also a law in many countries. Also, people should be able to unsubscribe at any time.

Use Lead Magnets

This is one of the best ways to build an email list. Offer something for free in exchange for an email.

Some examples are discounts, eBooks, guides, featured videos and featured content. These are known as lead magnets.

Put Sign-Up Forms on Your Website

This is fairly obvious, but it’s worth emphasizing. Your site needs to have an easy way for people to sign up on your email list.

You generally want to keep these simple, and in most cases you probably only need name and email address.

And make sure you pick an attractive template. GetResponse has some of the best templates out there.

The sign-up form should state the benefits of joining your email list along with a strong call to action button.

GetResponse is great because implementation is super easy. Their code integrates automatically with most types of websites, and if there is no automatic integration, then you can simply copy and paste a simple line of code into your site. Or you can just use a GetResponse hosted sign up form. No coding necessary.

Put Sign-up Forms on Facebook

If you already have a following on Facebook, then you can integrate a sign-up form tab into your Facebook fan page. This will make is easy for your Facebook fans to sign-up directly from your Facebook page.

By the way, GetResponse does have easy integration if you want to do this. You can find it in their integrations section.

From there all you need to do is click on the app and it will redirect you to Facebook asking you permissions to include their tab onto your Facebook page.

It’s super easy!

GetResponse also lets you customize all your Facebook sign-up forms as per your needs.

Run Webinars

Webinars can be a great tool for collecting emails simply because people are interacting directly with you; there is a human connection, so people are more likely to sign up.

There are lots of different webinar providers out there, but my favorite is GetResponse because they have amazing webinar tools (included with all plans) that will help you run webinars and seamlessly integrate list building.

Use Existing Subscribers

If you already have some subscribers, you can offer them a reward for referring more people to your list.

The reward for referrals could be the chance to win a prize; it could be exclusive content; it could be a cash reward. Whatever the case, this can be a pwerful way to grow your list.

Run Retargeting Campaigns

You can run retargeting campaigns through Google and Facebook for those who have visited your site, and interacted with it, but did not leave their contact details.

When you are running the retargeting campaign though, you should make sure to exclude the people who are already subscribed to your newsletters.

Collect Emails Offline

An often overlooked, but still very effective, way of collecting emails, is through offline means.

If you have a brick and mortar physical presence, you can offer people a discount at the checkout in exchange for opting into your newsletter.

You can also put up flyers with your website on them. You can hand out business cards or freebies with your website URL on them or give them out for subscribing to your email list.

You can also include your website on your printed products and even on your receipts.

Use Paid Advertisements

This is probably one of the most common ways to grow an email list. It can be super effective, and it can grow your list very quickly. But beware. This can get very expensive very fast.

One big advantage of paid ads is that they allow you to laser target your audience. You can focus your advertising money on an audience that has already demonstrated an interest in your type of product/service.

Some popular ways to collect emails via paid advertisements are social media ads (e.g. Facebook), search engine ads (e.g. Google, Yahoo & Bing etc.) and on sites that are closely related to your niche.

In a nutshell, your ads should direct people to a landing page that asks for an email address. Then after people sign up, you can have a series of (already prepared) emails automatically send out to the people who signed up.

Host Contests

Contests can be a great way to grow an email list. One super effective technique is to reward people for sharing the contest with their friends.

Pro Tip: Make sure that your contest doesn’t break any laws.

Conclusion

Hopefully those tips are useful.

If you are looking for software to use for your email list, then you should definitely consider GetResponse. This platform is an all-in-one tool for folks looking to create an email list and grow their businesses; it includes amazing tools such as landing pages, webinars and more.
